Alice in Wonderland?

So I've done a little photo shoot here which I never seem to get round to doing. And I always hate the posing I prefer much more natural pictures of me. I always think I look like Chandler Bing in that episode of Friends where he reveals he can't smile in pictures. Plus I don't always find amazing places to pose, so mind the surroundings. Anyway I had a little theme running through the pictures; Alice in Wonderland.

The first pictures here is what I think Alice would wear if she was a little Gothic; and also if she had stolen the white rabbits watch.

Dress- Orion London, Necklace - Miss Selfridge, Lace Tights - Jonathan Aston,
Wedges - Steve Madden.

Next up is this fabulous bow from Emma Fielden. How obnoxiously amazing is it? This is Alice's cute bow x 100. And these are my new shoes from the wonderful Vivienne Westwood. I love them dearly however they do rub after a long day!

Hair Bow - Emma Fielden, Dress - Topshop, Shoes - Melissa for Vivienne Westwood.

I officially can't wait to see the film, it comes out March 5th. I hope you'll all be going to see it!

These pictures are so pretty!

Spring 2010 Couture Fashion Shows...the best of....

CHANEL

It was pastels galore at Chanel. Which is bang on trend for Spring as we are seeing these colours appearing more and more in editorials and magazines spreads. I really loved the big over the top bows, although I don't think it would suit me without the back up of the beehive.

CHRISTIAN DIOR

As always it was a very extravagant affair at Dior. Some of the outfits looked fit for a Victorian horse rider; especially the first one in the images above. I do love the drama and you can always rely on John Galliano to bring it.

VALENTINO

Futuristic could be used to describe Valentino Spring Couture collection. Everything had a strong angles and shapes in the construction. I love the black outfit in the middle... I'm always drawn to black outfits. But the hint of cream adds another dimension.

GIVENCHY

Thigh high boots are still in for some time, they look abit like my Topshop ones ! I love the mix of purples used by Givenchy in this collection. The green trousers are also certainly a sight to behold!

Fashion Blogging... Bow-gate!

It's lovely to see at the moment my dissertation topic. is pretty much being discussed both in the media and by fellow bloggers. (I shall not post the exact topic on here as when I come to write about it I would effectively by plagiarizing myself. Sounds crazy but true.) However with such articles as the one seen in The Independent there is a steady rise in the documentation of the outrage of certain fashion journalists as they find themselves increasingly replaced by bloggers. Or so they say....
We all know the lovable Tavi from her blog Style Rookie; she has come under recent fire from a few journalists for wearing this hat at the Dior Couture show...

as she was said to be blocking the view of people behind her. She has also come into fire for simply wearing the hat in the first place. To be honest I think the criticism is all a little TOO much, Tavi was given the hat and as the saying goes 'it would be rude not to.'
I think now as we see an ever expanding new media platform, journalists will have to either learn to put up or shut up. That being said I think that fashion journalists from major magazines bring a sense of professionalism, whereas you can afford to be a little out there on a blog.
I think we can all live in peace and harmony... speaking for bother sides being a blogger and doing a degree in Journalism. It would be wonderful if all bloggers out there could get a big break through this medium, but sadly it only happens for a lucky few.

These are a few of my favourite things....

I can't stop wearing these at the moment! The coat has been so warm through these winter months. I love the boots, they make a satisfying jingly sound every time I walk. The bag from H&M is surprisingly roomy and I can fit all sorts in.

Fringe Bag, H&M

Boots, Carvela

Fake fur coat, Vintage.

What pieces are you especially loving at the moment?

Looking forward to Spring...

The UK is just about got over its cold spell (although more snow is apparently on its way) and so I'm looking forward to Spring fashion. Being able to shed a few layers will make a welcome change.
There are many changes for Spring this year and the styles that are in will lift those winter blues.

We saw lots of pastel shades hit the catwalk in September, as many designs shied away from the leather and studs of the past year. They gave a more ladylike manner to their clothing and had some beautiful colours showing throughout. The fabrics were delicate and sheer. It almost looks good enough to eat!

Something that's a little more affordable:

£45, Urban Outfitters.

Prints were all over the catwalk in September, and they came in all varying shapes, sizes, and colours. There were lots of geometric looking prints, take Alexander McQueen above. Florals are still not going away... but instead of opting for the small dainty florals from previous seasons why not take a leaf out of D&G's book and get something with oversized florals.

A cheaper alternative:

£11 ASOS

The statement jacket for this Spring will be the military flak jacket. Maybe you have something from a previous season as we have seen this trend a few years ago. However these designs seen above have a modern twist. Team yours with some leather look leggings, like Balmain above.

And again:

£60, Urban Outfitters.

The future...

Sorry for the severe lack of posts, I have been so busy with University. Being in the last year is hard... I have had twitchy eye and all sorts of ailments due to worrying over essays.

It kind of annoys me when I let the blog fall by the way side, because I want to write about fashion for my career (hopefully). I gradate in July and am therefore forced to think about what I am going to do for a living when I finish.

Oh sure I'd love to walk into British Vogue and ask for a job but I know I have to be realistic. It worries me that many people who graduated last year still aren't working in journalism. I just wonder are there going to be any jobs out there when I finish. I am have tried to do things which make me stand out from all the other graduates though. Recently I have become a student ambassador for VICE, which is a good start! Does anyone else share career worries?

Anyway hopefully over the festive period I will be posting more outfit pictures and general musings.
